Hito Steyerl’s essay “A Thing Like You and Me” challenges our conception of images. I started designing with imagery to play with the associations, interactions, and history that images can hold. By placing separate pictures that flow into each other, I illustrate Steyerl’s concept of imagery being an extension of ourselves. I work intuitively with arranging the text; I want the text to build off of the images. The article is in a staggering position to mirror the arrangement of the photographs. Displaying an organic relationship between the text and images demonstrates the two components expanding together. Therefore, looking at the components as a whole creates a larger image that exemplifies Steyerl’s idea of images possessing numeral interactions and elements.
